So 2018 is now a couple of days old and already for many the wheels are in motion to plan for 2019 social media success.
But as you and I both know, social media is constantly changing and evolving and 2019 will be no different.
In my video below I go through these tips for 2019 and you can also read the full blog post below. 👇😉
In this first post of the new year, I wanted to give you a number of tactics that you should consider utilising in your strategy to help you attain 2019 social media success.
Video really started to take off in 2018 and if your business is not getting onto video in 2019 you are going to be left behind.
Customers and people in general these days have developed a visual first mentality and they expect companies and brands to communicate with them using video.
Video I find is also, especially for
If you are still sitting on the fence with Video and its potential to impact your business positively then consider the following statistics:
1 93% of businesses reported gaining a new customer as a direct result of a video posted on social media. (Animoto)
2 Businesses and marketers who used video ended up growing revenue 49% faster than non-video users in 2017. (Vidyard)
3 When video and text are both available on the same page, 72% of consumers prefer video to learn about a product or service. (Wyzowl)
5 By 2019, video will account for about 78% of the world’s mobile data traffic. (Entrepreneur)
In 2018 we saw more and more brands going live whether it was on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.
2019 will be no exception and here is why.
I believe 2019 more than ever will be about authenticity. People want to be able to relate to feel a proper connection with people and companies they are thinking of doing business with.
Live video is the perfect tool to enable your community to connect and engage with you in real time.
It also allows you engage with them and get to know and understand the real challenges and issues they face so that you can provide a proper solution.
A key benefit of live video is that is by its nature engaging. Your viewers will want to comment and interact with you which is relationship marketing gold.
Another great reason to incorporate live video is that it is easy to consume rather than a lengthy article

If we look at Instagram stories first, it by far the most popular stories platform with over 400 million daily users.
It is also worth noting that over 80% of people on the channel follow one business so it is a not brainer to have your business on the channel also.
Facebook stories is growing with over 300 million users posting stories.
While the stories feature on Facebook is nowhere near what you get on Instagram, because Facebook owns Instagram you can easily
Why are stories so popular you may ask?
I think it goes back to what I said about the popularity of videos.
Stories allow you be more authentic, natural an create a rapport with your audience.
There is ability to create an immediate connection with your audience that allows for meaningful engagement happen quickly.
For business you can use a story to promote products and services and show behind the scenes of your business to build trust and engagement with your community.
Definitely give stories a look for 2019.
3 Re-building Trust
Social Media took a hammering when it came to trust in 2018.
We had the Cambridge Analytica scandal that rocked Facebook to its core and Twitter was embroiled in issues around the millions of fake bots on the channel.
2018 also marked the year when GDPR became law for businesses in Europe or with European customers.
In the excellent Social Media Trends report for 2019 from Hootsuite, this building of trust is the first key trend they focus on.
Based on data within the report one worrying fact presented is that 60% of people no longer trust Social Media Networks.
As the report also advises users are increasingly conscious of whom they’re interacting with on social media and what data they’re sharing.
Earning trust and providing real value are key for continued engagement.
I think these key issues of earning trust and providing value are why tactics such as video and stories have become so popular.
These channels help a consumer get to know your brand and your values.
However, apart from the marketing aspects I would advise you as a business to ensure all your processes are full transparent and compliant.
From data capture, storage, messaging online, customer service etc it is vital you have this properly documented and that the customer has full transparency.
Remember break a clients trust and you will not win that client back and no one wants that happening in 2019.
In a world where businesses that provide immediacy are rewarded the ChatBot started to flourish in 2018.
While I am personally not a fan I can understand that in this world where immediacy is now expected I can see why in 2019 using a chatbot has the following advantages.
1 A chatbot will only provide the necessary information as requested by the user on the site. So it does allow for positive user engagement and a potential longer time for a visitor to stay on your site.
2 Because chatbots can be valuable in communicating with customers the feedback they get by way of questions they ask can provide excellent insights to improve your business.
3 Customer service will always be key and chatbots can be an excellent tool to use to help customers with issues.
4 We all want new customers and Chatbots could be the perfect lead generation tool to have for website visitors to qualify them and send them into your sales funnel process.

Launched in 2018 IGTV is Instagrams version of YouTube except videos are vertical which is very targeted at the mobile user.
Why should you be on IGTV? It is invariably linked to the video content theme and the fact that Instagram with both its live and stories function is becoming a channel that all businesses need to consider.
Another excellent advantage of IGTV is that fact that at the bottom of each video you can place a clickable link in the description of your video
I think another great advantage is the fact that you can now share your IGTV video to your community via Whatsapp which is becoming the go-to messaging app for many consumers around the world so it gives you another avenue to send your content once permissioned of course.
6 Personal Engagement
This is one that I have always maintained is key for building relationships.
Social Media is not about pumping out content and not engaging with your audience.
2018 raised the issues of trust and transparency with social media to new levels.
For 2019 social media success a business has to understand that consumers want and expect an authentic relationship with the businesses and individuals they are considering purchasing from.
As I mentioned the tactics like video are an excellent way to support this but nothing beats actual engagement on your channels with your community.
Responding to notifications, sharing with positive commentary on your communities posts, thanking for following and sharing you content will start build that trust and ultimately a relationship.
I honestly believe that when you focus on building the trust and get to know your audience intimately to provide highly relevant and personalise content to them you have a winning formula.
I hope you enjoyed this post on my thoughts for 2019 and I would be grateful if you would share it with your community.
